Robert Zhao Renhui

“photography is a fantasy thats better then the truth”

a pianist in the zoo, Robert conjures narratives and studies of the relationship between humans and animals. his work ranges from visual documentaries to culture jamming installations. one can say he derives visual pleasure from dead animals. he questions the way animals are represented to the people today and wonders if the gaze upon animals needs to be reconfigured.

he believes our confrontation with the animal is one of a sad painting. that we live admist animals in our dreams and fantasies & not in reality.

this is perhaps evident in his on-going series, ‘ study of cynopterus ’ where he staged a troupe of pickled animals in a psuedo-drama based loosely on a nature-detached human perspective where he invites the audience to view his prints through a pair of binoculars. the series will be exhibited in london early april, 07.

Robert is currently based in the United Kingdom and is one of the overseer of a dose of light. he kingpins the collective‘s involvement with the arts scene/media and future direction.
